KWID worked in partnership with FIDA Uganda to implement an access to justice project in Kabale. Community members accessed lawyers in their communities, accessed legal support in their communities.
The trained community legal volunteers helped to reconcile victims and perpetuators except on cases like defilement, child neglect, and denying pregnancies which were referred to police and specialized agencies, and the following results were achieved.
- 183 cases were managed. Out of these 60 cases involved were reconciliation while 123 Gender Based Violence cases were referred; 33 child neglect cases, 2 child abuse cases 3 defilement cases, 1 child labour, 56 domestic violence, 5 land wrangles, 4 wife dismissal cases and 18 family disputes.
